Lighting up Brentford

‘What England Means To Me’ Friday 23 April

St George’s Day will be celebrated in Brentford this year with lots of fun to include music, entertainment, food, drinks, local history exhibits, stalls selling art and crafts, books etc etc and is being organised through the Brentford High Street Steering Group.

The event, which includes the theme ‘What England Means to Me’ will start at 3.00pm on Friday 23 April around the Market Place, High Street and Lion Way. The programme will start with some family fun followed by entertainment for the grown ups later on and finishing probably around 9.00pm.

We are looking for any individuals or local groups who might like to take part and join in the fun. A performance, exhibition, stall or simply just a presence.

For more details please contact Julia Quilliam on 020 8847 0332.

Why not come and celebrate the start of the Christmas season at Watermans on Friday 27 November.

There will be a Christmas Decoration workshop starting at 4pm.  Everyone is welcome to make a decoration, which will then be hung on a community Christmas tree and displayed in a shop window in the High Street.  The evening’s entertainment will then begin at 6pm with mulled wine, mince pies and lots more.

The winner of the art competition, selected from one of the four primary schools that are supporting this event, Our Lady & St John’s, Lionel Primary, St Paul’s and Green Dragon, will be announced and asked to switch on the lights.  A choir from Green Dragon Primary School will be singing Christmas songs and Albert and Friends Circus will entertain you.

A glittering evening is promised.

Julia and her team will be at Brentford Festival this Sunday to promote the Brentford High Street Christmas Lights. Come along to the stand to say hello and collect your Brentford is Brilliant badges and balloons.’

Raising money for The Brentford Christmas Lights 2009

Following the success of the Brentford Christmas Lights over the past two years we hope, through fund raising, to have a much more impressive display for 2009. Funding is also needed on an annual basis to have the lights put up and taken down and for storage when not in use.

Syon Park has very kindly given the Brentford High Street Steering Group the use of the Great Conservatory for a fund raising evening in September.

The Great Conservatory is the crowning glory of Syon Park’s gardens. The 3rd Duke of Northumberland commissioned Charles Fowler to build the conservatory in 1826, the first of its kind to be built out of gunmetal, Bath stone and glass. It was originally designed to act as a show house for the Duke’s exotic plants and inspired Joseph Paxton in his designs for the Crystal Palace. To this day the Conservatory is still magnificent and a wonderful location for special occasions.

holdtight

Music will be provided by the exciting new band, Hold Tight who will be playing a wide range of music, new and old. Band members from Hold Tight have just graduated from The London College of Music and are being sponsored for the evening by the kind generosity of Thames Valley University.

We are delighted to host what should be a very enjoyable evening for both residents and the business community to come together to meet old and meet new friends, have some fun and raise money for a brighter Brentford this Christmas.
